About the project
In this workshop, you will create a dimensional Kingfisher brooch while exploring a combination of goldwork and stumpwork techniques.
Throughout the two sessions, I will guide you through a variety of techniques including couching, cutwork over string padding, appliqué, basketweave, decorative purl formations, sequin formations, and neat backing and finishing techniques for the brooch.
The project combines different metals, layered padding, and detailed surface work, resulting in a colourful and highly dimensional piece full of texture and intricate elements. The kingfisher carries a small fish charm, adding a playful touch to the design.
For those who enjoy adding their own creative touches, we can also discuss the possibility of replacing the charm with a miniature embroidered goldwork fish. This variation is not included in the kit and would require additional materials. However, if you already have one of my Goldwork Supplies Bundles or Boxes or have supplies at home and would like to explore this option, simply leave me a note at checkout letting me know the colour of fish you have in mind. If I have a suitable felt fish shape in that colour, I will happily include it with your kit so you can stitch the kingfisher's catch.
Although intricate, this is a very enjoyable project to stitch and offers an opportunity to explore a wide range of goldwork and stumpwork techniques while creating a unique brooch inspired by the beauty of the kingfisher.
