About the project
In this workshop, you will create a dimensional Rooster while exploring a combination of goldwork and stumpwork techniques.
Throughout the two sessions, I will guide you through the whole process, including how to build the padding structure that gives the Rooster its shape and dimension, followed by a variety of techniques including couching, appliqué, goldwork trellis, S-ing with purls, working with metal strips to create a zigzag effect, and detailed surface work.
We will also look at how to neatly back and finish the Rooster. The kit includes two magnets, so once finished, you can display him as a magnet or use the second magnet behind your clothing to wear him as a brooch.
You can also choose to leave your Rooster on the fabric as a piece of embroidery rather than cutting him out, if you prefer.
The project combines different metals, layered padding and detailed surface work to create a colourful and highly dimensional piece full of texture and character. There are plenty of intricate elements to work through, making it a very enjoyable project while giving you the opportunity to explore a wide range of goldwork and stumpwork techniques.
